Monsters
The 4th and 5th grade had a great time making these adorable monsters inspired by an Instagram artists. The artists draws monsters and adds images that make it appear that the monsters are holding the objects. We worked with sharpie and used pencil shading skills. We learned how to make an object appear to be held by a monsters or eaten. This was a fun 1 to 2 day project. These little guys are sure to make you smile!
Original work magnet project
The 5th grade just completed their original works magnet project. We created a landscape, seascape or cityscape. Our picture was created using a set of colors that each student picked. We created a pattern with our choice of colors. Some students added 2 different set of colors to show water or ground. Each student was asked to design a silhouette of their choice. Every image above the horizon line was colored in with black sharpie. Every image below the horizon line is painted around in black paint. We used positive and negative space.
Collaborative Diamond Quilt
I am very excited to present to you our collaborative quilt art that each student helped create. Students each colored a 6x6 in quilt block in the shape of a diamond. The diamonds were then put together in color order. We created this beautiful work of art together! This was really a large work of art. It took 2 teachers and 4 students to help hang this up. You can view this beautiful work of art hanging down the main hallway heading toward the art room. Thank you to all who helped make this possible!
Lego people
5th grade students created Lego people. They did such a great job with details and creating a clay 3-D face for each of their lego characters. I am amazed with their creativity and their designs.
Day of the Dead neon sugar skulls and quilling
We started out our project talking about The Day of the Dead and what it is about. The class and I talked about how this holiday is celebrated. The students started with a paper plate and soon transformed it into a skull including 3-D cheek bones. Students painted their masks with bright bold neon colors. We added quilling- a type of ornamental artwork that involves the shaping of paper into delicate pleats or folds. We used quilling to create intricate details outlining eyes with shapes and delicate flowers for the head. A Series of dots were added to add extra detail and design. Some students went above and beyond adding lots of extra details (hair, eye patches and hats).
Insect mixed media
The 5th grade is just finishing their mixed media insect art project. We created different types of insects. This work of art is supposed to give you a taste of spring with its bright bold colors. We added unique details on our bugs bodies to add a touch of whimsy. The background behind our bugs lay mosaic tiles that remind me of garden stepping stone. I hope you enjoy our bugs.

The 5th grade class has been working really hard on their mono-chromatic (one-color) pagoda's. This mixed media project has been lots of fun, and it has been so much fun watching these pictures come to life. The following pictures below were just completed by a few 5th grade art students.
African Dance
The students viewed many African paintings. We were inspired by a beautiful warm sunset backdrop. The silhouettes of our African dancers and landscape really give these works of art a unique vibe. Our masks were made with model magic, sheeps wool and beads. I hope you enjoy our dancers!
